In the world of industrial and commercial cooling, performance is only part of the equation. Facility managers, engineers and operations professionals must also navigate an intricate web of codes – regulatory frameworks that govern elements such as structural integrity and thermal efficiency. Understanding what these codes are, where they apply and how they affect your projects isn’t just a matter of compliance – it’s about protecting your assets, ensuring operational uptime and making sound investments. In the United States (US), ammonia maintains an overwhelming presence in industrial refrigeration, occupying an estimated 80% to 90% of the market, according to Kurt Liebendorfer , VP of Industrial Refrigeration Business Development at Evapco. However, this dominance has declined slightly over the past decade as the uptake of carbon dioxide (CO2 / R744) refrigeration systems moves from the supermarket/ retail sector to the industrial sector as well. "This decline has primarily occurred in the new cold storage sector, where many new cold storages have been built over the same 10-year period

To modernize its sales approach, reduce operational costs, and better communicate complex product value, EVAPCO partnered with JigSpace to integrate augmented reality into their go-to-market strategy. By digitizing their product demonstrations at trade shows and in-house training, they have continued to unlock new ways to sell, train, and grow. EvVAPCO’s products—large-scale heat rejection equipment and natural refrigerant systems—are highly technical, often weighing tens of thousands of pounds. Showing these products in action poses a significant logistical and financial challenge. EVAPCO

Behind the scenes at a major resort on the Las Vegas Strip, an effort is underway at the Bellagio Resort & Casino to reduce water use on a massive scale. MGM Resorts International is piloting the Strip’s first hybrid cooling system with technology designed to save millions of gallons of water a year. “The controls, in the first year of use, are learning. And so what the controls need to do is figure out, based on the cooling load of the building and the ambient outdoor temperature, should it be running in wet mode or dry mode,” Michael Gulich, vice president of sustainability for MGM Resorts

As the digital world continues to expand, so does the demand for reliable, energy-efficient data centers — and that’s creating a booming business opportunity for HVAC contractors. Just about all market research firms predict double-digit annual growth (roughly 12–16%) in the next one to three years as data center capacity ramps up to support AI, cloud, and hyperscale infrastructure. With servers and networking equipment generating massive amounts of heat 24/7, precision cooling has become mission-critical to keep data flowing and downtime at bay. As summer is here, now is a good time to check the physical condition of your cooling towers to ensure continual efficient operation during the cooling season. Inspect the Water Distribution System. Inspect the water distribution system when the fan motor is turned off and pump is open. On forced draft units, remove one or two drift eliminator blocks from the top of the unit and observe the operation of the water distribution system. On induced draft units , lifting handles are provided on several blocks of drift eliminators within reach of the access door. The drift eliminators can be easily
