Summer is Approaching, This Tips May Help You!

As summer is here, now is a good time to check the physical condition of your cooling towers to ensure continual efficient operation during the cooling season.
Inspect the Water Distribution System.
Inspect the water distribution system when the fan motor is turned off and pump is open.
On forced draft units, remove one or two drift eliminator blocks from the top of the unit and observe the operation of the water distribution system.
On induced draft units, lifting handles are provided on several blocks of drift eliminators within reach of the access door. The drift eliminators can be easily removed from outside of the unit to observe the water distribution system.

Concentrations of water flow can indicate poor water distribution. This can stem from either nozzle blockages or missing distribution nozzles.
If the water distribution nozzles are NOT functioning properly, it is a sign that the suction strainer may not be working properly and that foreign matter or dirt has accumulated in the water distribution pipes. The nozzles can be cleared by taking a small pointed probe and moving it back and forth in the nozzle opening. |

If an extreme buildup of dirt or foreign matter occurs, remove the end cap in each branch to flush the debris from the header pipe. The spray branches and header can be removed for cleaning but should only be done if absolutely necessary. |

When inspecting and cleaning the water distribution system, always check that the orientation of the water distribution nozzles is correct as shown below. |
